The video has picked up a decent number of views on Youtube and the audience seem to be loving it. Uploader kumbaric calls revellers to arms with the words:

Help! The pigs are trying to ruin Christmas. Grab the sling shot and fire those birds! From the people who brought you the Guitar Hero Christmas Light game! Running on two computers and 10 Light-o-rama 16 channel controllers, uses more than 20,000 lights and less than one cent of electricity per game. Audio is broadcast on 99.1FM, and the controller has a long enough cord for people to play in their cars on the street. Easier than the iPhone version, and bigger too.

In order to develop games, Mac game developers spend a lot of time finding the apps they need. While they are mostly focused on the app itself, developers rarely wonder about the best way to find the apps they need. To help them out, I am sharing 8 effective ways to find apps that will be helpful in developing games for apps.

Mac App Store:

This should be your first stop. There are countless apps to choose from. If you are looking for something general, you can browse by categories, such as game category and app category; if you are looking for something specific, search by the key words. The Mac App store is the most comprehensive collection of apps and offers the easiest way to install them.

iTunes RSS Feeds:

Relatively few people actually use the iTunes RSS Feed Generator. Apple’s page to generate specific RSS feeds is somewhat hidden. The feeds will provide the requested information automatically, keeping you up to date with latest news and content. I subscribed Mac apps to receive news of the top 10 grossing Mac apps every day. Resultantly I don’t have to spend time searching for those apps in the Mac App Store.

Follow developer’s site:

If you already know of a great game app or developer, you should subscribe to their site. There is a good chance that your subscription will instantly yield you news of the new app released by the developer. For example, if you think SWF Decompiler for Mac is a really good tool for flash to HTML5 conversion, simply subscribe to the developer’s site, SourceTec Software, to keep in touch with any releases by them.

Mac App reviews:

Not sure which one is suitable for you? Don’t worry, check for the reviews. There are tons of Mac app reviews out there; all of them scrutinizing the app. The reviews include details that you might not pick up on. You could check out a few reviews, see what people are finding most helpful, and try out that app.

Google:

As the biggest search engine in the world, Google naturally makes our list. Apart from keywords searching, there are two other searching techniques you can use:

The first one is “related:” If you find a suitable app, and want to find a similar one, then you can use “related: +key word” order. Google will show the similar results of that app, which narrow down the search results.

The second one is “”. The quotation mark is suitable for accurate searches. It means complete match. For example, if you search “angry birds”, the results will completely match with the key words.

AppShopper:

AppShopper is a big app directory for iPhone, iPad and Mac. They provide you the latest news, price drops, tracking deals and any other updates. Each app is accompanied by a complete description. If you complete the registration, you are able to create your own wish list to maintain a list of app you want to try out in the future.

Alternative To:

AlternativeTo offers alternatives to any Mac app you enter. Even if you are content with the apps you are currently using, give AlternativeTO a go – you might find an even better alternative.

Mac App of the Day:

It can be somewhat taxing to separate the well-built apps from the lesser ones. Mac App of the Day can solve this problem. This is a website that recommends the coolest Mac apps of the day. They choose one community-nominated, high-quality Mac app daily; also, you are able to find the past featured apps for your Mac.

What is your favorite?

I personally use a combination of all the abovementioned 8 methods. I hope you they help you as much as they have helped me. If you have any other app-searching techniques I left out, feel free to share them in the comments.

Making calls on your mobile is usually easy and costs next to nothing if you’re calling locally. But when you’re traveling, you might find your wallet being sucked dry by excessive roaming charges. To prevent this from happening, here are 5 great iPhone apps that will help you save on local and international calls when you’re on the move.

Skype – You probably heard about Skype until now and their software that make it easier to voice and video chat with your friends. If you want to take Skype on the road, the iPhone app enables you to call other Skype users for free, chat with them or talk face-to-face. And, if you don’t have WiFi access at any time, you can connect to one of Skype’s 1 million global hotspots and pay for it through Skype credit.

Tango – Similarly to Skype, Tango allows you to place free audio and video calls to other friends on Tango that installed the app on the mobiles or PCs. It’s simple and easy to use, plus it finds the friends in your address book that have already installed the app. Generally, it’s advised you use this types of apps on a WiFi connection since calls through a 3G network can get very expensive if you don’t have an unlimited data plan.

Nobel Dialer – Developed by Nobelcom, one of the leading phone card providers, the Nobel Dialer app uses Nobelcom’s services to allow you to make international calls cheaper than your regular provider. As opposed to Skype and Tango, with the Nobel Dialer you can call landlines and mobiles, regardless the application is present or not. The app calls a local access number, logs in and calls a contact in your agenda. This way, you get international calls at local rates.

Talkathone – This particular app lets you make free calls via 3G or WiFi by making use of Google Voice’s backbone. Furthermore, Talkathone has been integrated with Facebook, making it possible for you to call your Facebook friends via VoIP. The glitch, however, is that the friend you’re calling also needs to have Talkathone installed for this to work.

NetTalk – If you’re in US or Canada, the NetTalk app is a great thing to have since it provides free calls to these two countries. It works over 3G, 4G, Edge and WiFi and can also record your conversations for you. The mobile app is designed to allow free calls to users who signup with NetTalk but isn’t assigned a number and cannot receive calls. For that, users need to sign up for NetTalk Duo, a paid service that connects directly to your router.

Post By Bogdan who is an online marketer for Nobelcom, one of the leading online phone card providers.

Apple technology is revolutionizing modern society, because it’s just like other technology but now people want to use it. People who don’t normally get excited about gadgets. Where portable personal computers were once the realm of nerds and movie characters, we can now assume that people will have access to the internet, and each other, and if there’s one thing instant information access will affect it’s education.

Interactive Lessons

Obviously the main proponent of the iPad in education is Apple, because there are millions and millions of students. And if you can create customers at school, they’ll stay with you for life. But just because someone somewhere makes money from it doesn’t make something a bad idea. Classroom iPads allow interactive lessons where the students can be guided through interesting notes instead of sitting scribbling for eight hours every day, as they do with paper pads. We’re mean to be raising scientists, doctors, and accountants, not stenographers. Teaching them to write so much so quickly on they can understand the resulting handwriting isn’t education.

http://www.apple.com/education/ipad/

Making Research Easy

The internet makes research effortless, as anyone who’s found themselves reading the backstory of Firefly characters until 2 am can tell you. The key is keeping the research on track, focusing on useful and important things. Many students see the internet as a source for stealing material, but that’s only becaues their teachers don’t understand it either. With work done electronically it becomes very easy to check for copy and pasted reports – and students will quickly learn that they have to read the material, run it through their brain, and write it down differently. Which is exactly what homework was before the internet.

Easy References

In the higher echelons of education technology is saving even more time. If you’re doing something more than once, the computer should be doing it for you, and graduate students cite thousands of papers. Programs like Evernote and Endnote automate the collection of citations and references, saving time for the researcher to actually research. Or play Angry Birds. Either way, they feel a lot better about their work!

Students are now proud to carry their iPads with them in their collages and universities.

Integrated Task Lists

To Do lists aren’t make-work, they make you work far more effectively. Most modern productivity schemes are based on simple task lists (with a few proprietary buzzwords thrown in), simply because they’re the best way to organize anything. The human brain isn’t built to remember things, but to do them. Offloading the organization onto a list really does make the day easier, and with an iPad you won’t then lose the vital piece of paper. The ability to add and check off tasks on a master list anywhere lets you count on one central To Do list. Meaning you’ll never miss any homework. The way parents can easily check the list helps younger students.

Sharing The Tech

Apple is doing much more than telling people their products work in the classroom. With education news and iPad Learning Labs, they’re funding real research into upgrading eduaction with information technology. An iPad Learing Lab provides a classroom with a mobile cart to charge and sync classroom iPads, meaning multiple classes can benefit from the ultimate handheld device. Synced files means teachers don’t have to waste time e-mailing and describing download locations, the time-wasting bane of tech-enabled classrooms, but can instead get on with sharing information at a personal level. Which is what the iPad was all about from the start.

While many of us have been paying tribute to man behind the iPhone, iPod and iPad, a group of bike riders decided to do the opposite. Not too long ago Apple’s new retail store in Covent Garden has been raided by a group of bikers who targeted and stole as many Mac laptops, iPads and iPhones as they could.

Maclife.com

During all this, Robert Shoesmith, who apparently camps outside of the store waiting for the release of the company’s next iPhone handset explained the whole incident

“It’s around 1.15 am and the Apple Store in Covent Garden has just been raided! Woke up to hear a load of motorbikes zoom in and then a smash and grab.” He also added “Looks like a lot of Mac computers have been stolen with 4 motor bikes.”

He told the police that he was asleep at the time of the robery and was woken by the alarms of the Apple store and that is when he saw a couple of bikes and around 7-8 people on it stealing the goods.

Good news is that the police has already arrested two of the gang members and hopefully will get their hands on the rest.

Here’s a statement from the Metropolitan police

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after a smash-and-grab in central London.

Police were alerted at approx. 01.00hrs this morning (Monday 10 October) to a window broken and property taken from the Apple Store in Covent Garden.

It is believed there were around 7 moped riders / motorcyclists involved, most if not all with a pillion passenger. All persons were in full face crash helmets.

They stole iPads and other similar devices.

Shortly afterwards Islington police saw a moped and followed and attempted to stop it, but it was lost.

A moped was subsequently found abandoned in the vicinity of Wyclif Court, St John Street EC1 – officers saw two men inside the block of flats, and they were pursued on foot and apprehended within the block at approx 01.20hrs.

Some property, believed stolen from the store, was found in bags in their possession.

The men [A - 16 ys; B - 21 ys] are now in custody at a north London police station.

We’re glad Steve didn’t get to see all of this. This would probably be the last thing he would have wished to see.

The news is all over the internet and is confirmed by reliable officials. In fact its all over Apple.com.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”

A person who single handedly revolutionized the world is no longer among us but he shall always be remembered.
